Planning: Size of your family
It makes a lot of sense to assess the needs of you and your family before you start planning your bathroom. Are you single, living together or having a family with different age groups? All these things matter when you choose your fixtures, storage, flooring and wall coverings.
When you're single, you don't really have to conform to anyone else's opinions. You can choose the fixtures and flooring yourself. However, you might live in a house that only has a small bathroom. This will mean that you have to be creative with the space you have. You can however opt for more luxurious wall coverings and flooring, because the area that needs to be covered will not be that big. When you're living together, try to decide whether the bathroom has to be used by you and the other at the same time. If that is the case, a double basin construction can be a solution. In that way, both people can use the bathroom at the same time and can store their toiletries separate under the basin or on shelves above them. Another idea is to choose for both a shower and a bath, so that both can be used at the same time.
Families have a lot of other expectations from a bathroom. Young children need accessories to help them bathe and go to the toilet, which need extra storage. Elderly people and disabled members of the family need extra fixtures to ensure safety in the bathroom. Especially in the morning members of the family might need to use the bathroom at the same time. A solution to this problem could be the installation of an extra cloakroom in the house.
